I grew up in Japan and have lived in Vienna for over 40 years. Somewhere between those two places, I noticed a gap: most travel planning for Japan is either mass-market, or filtered through someone else's idea of what Japan should look like.
Ma. is my attempt to close that gap — planning trips the way I would plan them for a friend, drawing on what I actually know, not what a guidebook says.
"Ma." (間) is a Japanese idea about the space between things — the pause that gives everything else its shape. It's also, quite simply, how I think about travel: not a checklist of sights, but room to actually experience a place.
I'm not interested in importing what's familiar — opera houses, souvenir shops, standard temple routes. I'd rather show you the Japan I grew up seeing: ordinary streets, small gardens, the rhythm of a town on an average Tuesday.
