Landscapes

Most travel photography of Japan shows the same handful of places, from the same handful of angles. What's left out is almost everything — the quiet coastlines, the mountain villages, the back streets of cities most visitors never enter.

What you won't find in a guidebook

I grew up seeing a version of Japan that rarely makes it into travel media: rice terraces changing with the seasons, small fishing towns, neighborhoods that exist for the people who live there, not for visitors. These aren't hidden secrets — they're simply not photogenic in the way guidebooks expect, and that's exactly why they're worth seeing.

Built around where you want to go

Every itinerary can include time in these places — a slow afternoon in a town with no name recognition, a landscape you won't have seen photographed anywhere. It's less about ticking off sights, and more about being somewhere real.
